York Ankle-shoes. Based on the finds from Coppergate in York ( Style 6). These shoes have a 4-6 mm veg-tan leather sole and integral ties.

York type 6, Medieval Turn Shoes, 12th-13th Century.

We are delighted to offer for sale these close copies of the original shoes.

The uppers are made from 2-2.5mm Veg tan cow hide joined by hand sewn edge butted seams.

The soles are thick 6 mm+ veg-tan cow hide, they soles are hand sewn using the original type 1 method (grain/flesh & tunnel Stitch) and and have a round heal with an internal heal support.

I can dye your shoes to order, please add dye and finish service to your basket 🙂

The shoes closed by integral ties method.

Suitable for portrayal of a 12th-13th C ‘European’ persona.

Leather and Leather working in Anglo-Scandinavian and Medieval York – Q.Mould, I.Carlisle & E.Cameron, Type 6.

Whilst these are based on the York shoe similar examples are found throughout the 12th-13th Century world. Other examples ( some fragmentary) have been found in London and The Netherlands
